In comparison to its weight, Douglas fir ranks as the strongest of all American woods and it is naturally dimensionally stable, having the ability to season well in position. Most builders prefer Douglas Fir in the "green" or unseasoned condition, allowing it to air dry during construction.
S4S surfaced four sides. Structural Light Framing grades.
Hem Fir, Douglas Fir and Western Larch share nearly identical structural characteristics
Hemlock is coastal and typically has a higher moisture content

Burgess treated lumber uses dimensionally stable Doug-fir with ACQ a waterborne system that is copper-based. Incised for deeper penetration of treatment and .40 ACQ a higher preservative content rated for ground contact. ACQ copper and quaternary provide protection from fungi, termites and prevents rot and decay.
Standard and better grades, surfaced four sides. Larger timbers special order 1-5 days
Use either hot dip galvanized or stainless steel fasteners with ACQ treated lumber

Redwood is dimensionally stable and not prone to checking or splitting. In all heartwood grades it is decay-resistant and more insect repellent than other softwoods. It is popular due to its beauty and long-lasting performance.
Almost as decay resistant Western Red Cedar is also stable with a very low shrinkage factor that is free of pitch.
